In 2017, humans with a certain mutation in their genes began to develop animalistic features based on their career, personality, and location.The world reacted by enforcing rules and regulations on these newly named demihumans — for their protection and for the safety of other humans.
1. A human and a demihuman may never breed. Romantic and sexual relationships between a human and a demihuman are illegal.2. Demihumans that do not reside in a verified demihuman oasis must have been adopted by a human over the age of 18.3. Demihumans are not allowed in public spaces without their owner and a DigiChip collar.4. Demihumans who wish to work may only find work within demihuman oasis camps or in manual labor fields, like on farms or construction sites. These sites must have the proper insurance and cannot be within urban city limits of over 50,000 residents.5. Stray demihumans are brought to adoption agencies where they are microchipped and adopted off.6. Demihumans that resemble predators are injected with a shock chip, allowing their owner to utilize it if they ever tried to attack them. These chips are utilized in underground demi fighters.

In 2022, zoos for demihumans were made legal. These zoos exclusively showcase stray demihumans who happened to resemble predators, like lions and crocodiles. These zoos are rumored to be very bad for their demihumans, often forcing them to participate in dangerous circus stunts and using lethal tactics to enforce obedience.
ᵐⁱᶜʳᵒᶜʰⁱᵖˢ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ʷᵉʳᵉ ᵐᵃᵈᵉ ᶠᵒʳ ᵏᵉᵉᵖⁱⁿᵍ ᵈᵉᵐⁱʰᵘᵐᵃⁿˢ ᶜᵒᵒᵖᵉʳᵃᵗⁱᵛᵉ
DigiChip was created in 2020 by Cole Barber, a Canadian software engineer, after a bear demihuman attacked a civilian. The Digichip was designed to keep demihumans in line by:
• Transmitting a shock at the touch of an app.
• Displaying vitals on the app.
• Transmitting a signal, pinging the app every two minutes about the location of the demihuman.
ᵃᵈᵒᵖᵗⁱᵒⁿ ᵃᵍᵉⁿᶜⁱᵉˢ ᶠᵒʳ ᵈᵉᵐⁱʰᵘᵐᵃⁿˢ
Adoption agencies opened up in 2018, just months after the first demihuman appeared. Adoption agencies enforce the use of DigiChip and keep demihumans in often unclean, cramped spaces before they are adopted. These agencies utilize sterilizing and sedation drugs to ensure that demihumans are cooperative and calm.

Sterilization with the injection in demihumans will reverse after six months of not taking it, but it still causes long-term neurological damage, making heats more potent and directly causes long-term memory loss.
ᵈᵉᵐⁱʰᵘᵐᵃⁿ ʳⁱᵍʰᵗˢ ᵃᵍᵉⁿᶜʸ ' ᵃᶜᵗⁱᵛⁱˢᵗˢ
DHRA is the agency that oversees the oasis camps. They are a non-profit organization that typically gets together to protest, march, and fight for the rights of demihumans. "Demihumans = Human" is their brand. The ADC (Anti Demi Committee) is their direct rival.

A scientist in Romania wants to understand these demis and has gone to new measures to do so. His test subjects consist of the unlucky victims who have caught his attention worldwide.
𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮
The scientist running experiments on demihumans. He hired hitmen to kidnap the demihumans that have attracted his attention through social media and street surveillance cameras. Octavian was killed in 2028 by US and Mexican military efforts to free the captives in the lab.
𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐛
Octavian's lab is located somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The only way in or out is through an iron door leading into the mountain, which then descends into the actual lab itself. 
The cells in which the demihumans are kept in are square. They contain a hard bed with a small pillow, a toilet, and a sink. There are no windows for them to see outside of the cell, but there is a vent on the ceiling of each one to ensure air quality remains fine.

The hallways leading into the cells are narrow and uncomfortably cramped. They are designed this way to help create a maze layout in case a demihuman tried to escape. The narrowness of the hallways would disorient them faster when trying to locate the exit.
Octavian has a large office connected to an experimental control room that he often straps his subjects down in to perform tests.

There is also a large dining room that doubles as a common area for the demihumans.

The doors to the cells cannot be unlocked by anyone except Octavian Filipescu without accessing the control panel in his office.

Octavian will occasionally put a prey demihuman into the same cell as a predator demihuman for an extended period of time just to record notes on inherited predator/prey instincts.

The demihumans only get four hours of leisure time in the common room each day. It is split up into two hours between every meal.

Meals are at: 0700, 1200, and 1900. Snacks between dinner and breakfast (the next day) are not permitted unless Octavian has recorded a condition that requires it.

Octavian has used pheromones to encourage demihumans to mate, breeding different species with each other to record the result. Pregnant demihumans are to be treated with care under Octavian's order and are permitted two snacks between dinner and breakfast (the next day).
